Step Up
The Step Up Service is a Crisis House based in Yeovil, Somerset, and is open to county-wide referrals from the local NHS Home Treatment Service. The Crisis House provides short term accommodation for up to 6 people who are experiencing a period of crisis with their mental health.
What does Step Up offer?
Rethink Mental Illness’s Step Up Facility has a small staff team (consisting of 7 mental health support workers, 2 team leaders and a registered manager) with various skills and interests. Clients can participate in a wide range of workshops, from budgeting to coping strategies. The service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
To ensure someone will be there to support clients when needed, our full staff team is available from 0900-2100, and a staff member is available overnight for emergency support if required.
Step Up has two peer support workers whose lived experience helps them relate to clients coming into the service. These peer support workers are entirely client-focused, solely here for their benefit, and offer 1 to 1 support.
Step Up peer support workers can also support clients with outside-of-service work, such as going to Mind in Somerset. Step-up encourages people to explore outside their comfort zones, try new activities, and experience different forms of support to see what works for them individually.
The Watch project works within the Open Mental Health Alliance, and we can refer clients to it when they leave. OMH partner Watch offers courses, varied sessions and group participation for clients to attend.
Referrals
Referrals and transfers to the service only come from NHS Somerset Foundation Trust’s teams for the time being. Referrals can be made electronically from a person’s current care team. Should you feel that you or someone you care for would benefit from this service, we encourage you to discuss this with your keyworker, who can make a referral on your behalf.
