Free Music Workshops in Frome!
The first workshops are starting: Friday January 5th 2024
Open Mental Health Expert by Experience leader Bo Boman Shaw set up the Music for Mental Wellbeing creative space back in 2022. These monthly workshops are run by Mind Your Music and funded by Open Mental Health Community Grants. The workshops are FREE to participants and are for people with moderate to severe mental health issues.
Bo explained:
“I started these workshops when I was trying to find creative opportunities for mental wellbeing in Frome or nearby. I couldn’t find any, so I applied for an Open Mental Health grant and contacted Mind Your Music, and now, in 2023, we are running our second course of music workshops and looking forward to the next one in 2024. Our participants go on a wonderful journey.”
Music is a powerful tool to support mental wellbeing and the workshops offer a creative community where everyone feels supported and empowered to take control of their mental health. With a reassuring environment, workshop sessions provide a safe space for people struggling with their mental health to heal and grow through the power of music.
Bo says:
“The workshops involve group drumming and eventually singing, but there is no pressure to do anything if participants don’t want to, we understand that people have good and bad days.
If at any time someone feels overwhelmed, they can sit in the room next door or even leave, we all understand.
There is a large car park at Trinity Hall, and we have a free taxi from the centre of town to and from the workshop if needed. If you would like to bring a support worker, family member or friend, they are very welcome. The sessions are two hours long, with a tea break halfway through.”
