Artist and elected Royal West of England Academician Sara Dudman has compiled a case study about the Somerset Art Works Online Art Group – Quiet Places for Unquiet Minds, an OMH grant-funded project.
While many art workshops are short-term offers, the group’s regular online sessions are valued, consistent highlights in participants’ lives. Working with artists in a range of creative materials and media, the group creates an accessible platform and community for people to engage with art in a way that encourages creativity and the development of new skills.
Being part of a community enriches participants’ lives and creates a sense of belonging. It offers a time-out from stress for self-expression and increased self-confidence.
‘I don’t think I can fully vocalise just how invaluable the Online Art Group has been for me. It has helped keep me afloat both creatively and on a mental health level. I am quite isolated, living on my own and not able to travel very far due to ill health.’ – OAG participant December 2023
The Somerset Art Works Online Art Group meets throughout the year on Facebook Live on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 6.30 to 7.30 pm.
New members are welcome. For more information, contact admin@somersetartworks.org.uk
