Stronger together: securing the future of vital support for diverse and displaced communities in Somerset and beyond
The trustees and staff of the Community Council for Somerset (CCS) have welcomed Diversity Voice into the CCS family.
This is a positive step for both organisations, rooted in shared values and a shared mission: to support people facing disadvantage and help communities thrive. Diversity Voice brings deep experience working with people from migrant, refugee and ethnic minority backgrounds – supporting them with language services, advocacy, access to education and employment, and much more.
By joining CCS, Diversity Voice’s staff and services will become part of a larger, more resilient organisation with greater reach and resources. In turn, CCS gains trusted expertise and connections that will strengthen and expand our work with diverse communities across Somerset.
Diversity Voice’s work will sit alongside the Somerset Diverse Communities programme, which helps people from diverse backgrounds connect with each other and their local community. The programme supports community-led groups, celebrates cultural identity, and helps people participate in everyday life – from volunteering and local democracy to events and activities. Refugee hubs offer displaced people support, advice, and friendship.
Val Bishop, CEO of CCS, said:
“This is a natural fit. Diversity Voice’s values, skills, and community relationships align so well with our own. We’re thrilled to be welcoming their team into CCS and are confident that, together, we can grow a stronger, more inclusive Somerset.”
The move reflects a shared belief that collaboration is the best way to protect the future of these vital services. CSS is working closely with the Diversity Voice team to ensure a smooth transition that prioritises the wellbeing of staff and the people they support.
Both organisations are committed to keeping everyone informed as they move forward with a shared commitment to putting communities first and standing alongside those who face the greatest challenges.
