The Serious Mental Illness Engagement Training is an online course co-produced with Experts by Experience and delivered by individuals with lived experience. It focuses on improving engagement and reducing health inequalities.
We’ve known for a long time that people severely affected by mental illness are more likely to experience poor health outcomes and develop physical health conditions. This contributes towards higher rates of early death, with people severely affected by mental illness three and a half times more likely to die before the age of 75. We also know that a lot of this relates to the experience of living with a serious mental illness.
We know that one way to address this inequality is for individuals to engage happily and healthily with their support networks. In this training, we discuss ways to engage, support, and work alongside individuals who have a serious mental illness to reduce inequalities, start a conversation on creating more person-centric ways of working, and help inform people of barriers that individuals may experience and ways to overcome them.
