How do you feel talking about your mental health? If you said ‘uncomfortable’, then you are not alone. Statistics show that nearly 20 million adults in the UK never speak about it at all. Two in three people put on a front and nearly half of us are less likely to open up if we think it will worry others.
Time to Talk Day, which is on February 6th, 2025, encourages everyone to discuss mental health openly. It’s organised by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness with support from the Co-op. By talking about our mental health with family, friends and colleagues, we can build supportive communities.
Why is it Important to Talk About Mental Health?
Open and honest communication is a powerful step towards improving our mental wellbeing. It can reduce stigma and encourage people to seek help when needed. Conversation can develop understanding, break down barriers, and show those who are struggling that they’re not alone.
How to Take Part in Time to Talk
If you’d like to get your community talking, there are many ways to do just that. Time to Talk is keen that you share details of the day on social media using the #TimeToTalk hashtag. On the Time to Talk website, you’ll find lots of suggestions, from chatting with people you know to organising activities and events. There’s a handy pack of resources to download, too.
