Have you heard of Time to Talk Day? It is taking place this Thursday, 5 February 2026. It’s a day for all of us—friends, families, and colleagues—to come together and chat about mental health.
The idea is simple: the more we talk, the more we can break down the stigma that sometimes makes people feel isolated or ashamed. We all have mental health, and having a small conversation can make a world of difference.
It Doesn’t Need to Be Awkward
We know that starting these conversations isn’t always easy. We might worry about saying the wrong thing or feel nervous that we’ll make someone feel uncomfortable. It is completely natural to feel a bit nervous when we ask someone how they are really doing.
If you are feeling unsure about how to reach out, we’ve put together a guide on how to support someone you care about. It’s full of gentle tips on how to listen without feeling like you have to “fix” anything.
How to Get Involved in Time to Talk
You don’t need to be an expert to take part. It can be as simple as:
- Sending a quick text to a friend to see how their week is going.
- Having a cuppa with a colleague and asking “How are you, really?”.
- Going for a walk with a neighbour to catch up.
