Open Mental Health recognises the power of peer in the joined-up approach to transforming experiences and outcomes for people affected by mental illness. We have a peer specialist organisation WATCH who provide experienced guidance and support to both organisations and individuals.
WATCH, in partnership with Somerset Skills & Learning, has recently completed some Peer Champion training hosted by ARK at Egwood. A Peer Champion is an ambassador within their own organisation for supporting new and current members, as well as representing their setting in the public eye.
Peer Champions will have specific roles in their organisations and this training was centred around exploring and developing the skills required, as well as the importance of safeguarding our own wellbeing when supporting others. The amazing thing about bringing different organisations together is that we have built bridges between projects and we all know a little more about what we do, which stands us in good stead for working together towards positive mental health in Somerset.
WATCH as Open Mental Health Peer Lead
WATCH has also started networking with OMH partners to train Peer Support Framework Champions within their organisations.
The Peer Support Framework is WATCH’s offer to others and to ensure it is fully understood, we have produced a condensed version which we are using to run information sessions, with a view to all in the OMH having a clear understanding of WATCH’s role as the Peer lead. We have started these meetings with representatives from the Lead Accountable Bodies and EbE Leaders and will shortly be extending this invitation to other representatives. The hope is that these sessions will become information exchanges between partner organisations, to increase communication and collaboration.
If you have not had your invitation yet, keep an eye on your inbox!
